MEDICAL SIMULATORS

The Athens Eye Hospital is a pioneer in the field of training of ophthalmologists, with the, unique in Greece, realistic simulators for cataract and posterior segment procedures as well as indirect ophthalmoscopy.

With the use of state of the art 3D virtual reality technology, trainee ophthalmologists can familiarize themselves with the equipment and surgical controls in a specially set-up environment, without anxiety and time pressure.

The conditions simulate those of a real operation, with microscopes, operating instruments and phacoemulsification and vitrectomy equipment, where the trainee has full control of the parameters, using touch screens and the original pedals of the device.

There are different levels of difficulty, ranging from simple surgical controls for beginners to the treatment of established complications for more advanced users, while the built-in performance analysis system detects the mistakes and gives a detailed report of the trainee’s performance.
